Hejduk Diaper Challenge

KC Area News
Press Release: From David Hejduk-
In conjunction with the Kansas State Cyclocross Championship race to be held Sunday November 15th in Leavenworth, Kansas the race promoter, Chris Locke, has partnered with HappyBottoms.org in coordinating a diaper drive. The goal of the organization is to collect as many new diapers as possible (7 days, 7000 diapers this week) to support low income families in our local community.

Bring your donated diapers to the registration area for the race before 2 pm and there will be a separate table set up and a collection bin. We are also accepting cash donations to purchase diapers.

As an extra incentive, I am making this into a team competition. If any team brings more diapers than 360 Racing, I (David Hejduk) will personally wear a diaper when I race the single speed category at 1:00 pm (seriously). I will count all the diapers collected by 12:45 pm on Sunday (please tag your diapers with a post it and log it on the clip board provided at the collection table). The value of $1 will be equal to 3 diapers. For example, the $10 you donate will be equal to 30 diapers towards your team total.

Come on 360 Racing, help a brother out!

Boss Cross#2

Today was the second day of the Boss Cross series. Unfortunately yesterday I had to work and could not attend. I was on duty, and was hoping for a slow night on the Rescue truck. With it being a Saturday night I was wasn't holding my breath! Well, I went to bed around 10:30 and woke up at 4:30 ready to race. I couldn't believe we did not run a single call over the night! I was so wired about today's race, I couldn't get back to sleep. I just laid there thinking, I really hope I can actually finish a fricking race this season! Before today I was batting 0 for 2. So I got out of the station around 8:00 and hauled ass home to get the bikes and family.

I make it to the race course in good time and start to get warmed up. After riding the course, I'm liking it! I decide to register for the Masters and the singlespeed categories. I have never races a singlespeed, so I was really looking forward to it.

We get lined up and I start sizing up my competition. Not sure why, since I have yet to finish a race this season! The 35+ field is solid like usual, my goal was to hang with Josh for as long as I can.

The race starts and I think I'm maybe 3rd or 5th going into the grass. I sit in, and I'm feeling pretty comfortable. At this time I'm sitting on Josh's wheel like I wanted. We get to the back side of the 1st lap, and there is a hair pin corner and a bite it hard. My left knee slams hard against my handle bars and I lose Josh's wheel. I lose some ground and then Justin Bowes comes around me. I grab his wheel, and now Kyle Bush is sitting on my wheel. The three of us end up riding most of the race together, with Justin doing most of the work. Justing rode an impressive race, he was attacking me every chance he could! Going through the ride able sand pit, I run into Kyle's wheel and have to unclip from my pedal. Kyle then attacks and opens up a gap on us. I think with 2 laps to go, we brought back Matt Eastlack, who had a great start. My teammate Jenks won, with Josh 2nd. Kyle finished 3rd, Justin 4th and me 5th. I really enjoyed the race, and had a good time battling with Justin and Kyle.

Immediately following that race, we lined up for the singlespeed race. I really wasn't sure if I should do it. I was pretty wasted, and my knee was starting to swell. But decided to do it, I figured I could pull out if I wanted to. I chose to run a 42x18 gear. I think it was perfect. Though, I think my SS bike is a little small for me. I ended up battling with my teammate Dean for most of the race. He ended up beating me, I was just glad I finished! I really enjoyed SS, I think I will start hunting down a new frame! It was nice not having to worry about shifting, and just concentrating on railing the corners.

So loaded up the van and my family and we headed to Platt City to pick some apples. We went to

Alldredge Apple Orchard. If you are out that way, stop by-I highly recommend it. We had a great time!

Thanks Joe for taking these race pics-

KC Cup CX

Wow... what a weekend! I'm not sure where to start, as you can see from the pics-we were pretty busy! I had a blast with this race, and now I have a whole new respect for race promoters!! I could not have pulled this off without the awesome teamwork of 360 racing and the Heartland Race crew. We had approx. 170 people racing! Thanks to everyone who helped out and raced, next year we are planning on doing it even bigger!

I also wanted to thank my lovely wife for being so understanding this last week(last Thursday was our 15 year anniversary!), I could not have done this without her support. I love you Kim!!

Now time to assess the damage to my cx bike.

BTW - I raced the expert class yesterday and fell back in love with mtn biking, the Swope trails were incredible! The Heartland Race crew have done an excellent job with the trails.

-Thanks Dan for helping out with tear down! Glad you could make it to the race, it was great seeing you!
